Maria Leonida is a documentary film director, co-founder and Director of Karpos, Centre for Media Education (est.2008, www.karposontheweb.org).

Her documentary work has been screened in Film Festivals and TV channels around Europe with various subjects on art and society. Maria was selected for the IDFA New Talents section in 1996, and awarded in Greek Festivals and the State Quality Awards for her Documentary “Tough Pose” 1998. She has directed co productions with the Greek Film Centre, ERT SA, ZDF-ARTE, E.B.U., Archaeological Eforates and several NGOs. Maria trained in filmmaking in London and Denmark. She holds a BA in History and an MA in Art History.

Karpos is a non profit organisation focusing on media literacy running Greek and European film and media literacy projects. Maria is a senior trainer and content writer in various EU projects and develops educational materials on the creative and critical aspects of media expression for a range of young and adult learners. Maria develops, coordinates projects and creates educational materials addressing various aspects of the media tools and texts.

She has several collaborations in Germany (University of Frankfurt, the JOBAct project and the Theatre Pedagogue Association of Hessen) for film language workshops.

She is a member of the Film Literacy Advisory Group. She conducted the Curriculum for teaching Documentary at the Arts High Schools in Greece, on behalf of the Ministry of Education.

She has several collaborations in Germany (University of Frankfurt, the JOBAct, the Theatre Pedagogue Association of Hessen) for media language workshops for mature teenagers and young adults.
