
Documentary film director, co-founder and Director of Karpos, Centre for Media Education www.karposontheweb.org
Her documentary work has been screened in Film Festivals and TV channels around Europe with various subjects on art and society. Maria was selected for the IDFA New Talents section in 1996, and awarded in Greek Festivals and the State Quality Awards for her Documentaries One Man Show and “Tough Pose”, 1998. She has directed co productions with the Greek Film Centre, ERT SA, ZDF-ARTE, E.B.U., Archaeological Eforates and several NGOs. Maria trained in filmmaking in London and Denmark. She holds a BA in History and an MA in Art History. She is currently a Phd candidate at the NKUA researching film and media teaching in online environments. She is an active meebr of the Greek Documentary Association and a Board member of the International Association for Media Education.
Karpos (est. 2008) is a non profit organisation focusing on media literacy running Greek and European film and media education projects. In Karpos, Maria is a senior media trainer and project manager in various EU projects which involve digital media as tools for expression, learning and advocacy. She designs workshops and develops educational materials on the creative and critical aspects of media expression for a range of young and adult learners, addressing various aspects of the media tools and texts.
She is a co writer of several toolkits and curricula for European projects: CLAP 2022-5, Team Up 2022-23, Steamulate YourSchool 2020, Silence Hate 2018-9, AppYourSchool 2016-18, Youth Docs, 2014-16, North Aegean Narratives 2011-12, Videomuseums 2010-12, Stranger Festival 2009, Ecowomen 2008, CH.I.C.A.M 2002-3. She has several collaborations in Germany (University of Frankfurt, the JOBAct project and the Theatre Pedagogue Association of Hessen) for film language workshops for mature teenagers and trainers.
She is a member of the Film Literacy Advisory Group. She conducted the Curriculum for teaching Documentary at the Arts High Schools (2015) and a collaborator of the Audiovisual Education Curriculum for Primary and Secondary Education (2012) on behalf of the Ministry of Education, Greece.
